The Triangle Loop

In spring 2015, when the snow melts & the frigid north warms up, we will return to the Erie Canal and free Choices from heated storage in Brewerton NY. Our first voyage will be to head west on the Erie Canal to Fairport NY (near Rochester) for a dock party at our hometown.

Then we will head north on what is called the Triangle Loop. For us, this will consist of backtracking on the Erie Canal to head north in the Oswego Canal. At Oswego we’ll cut across Lake Ontario to Kingston NY where we’ll begin the Rideau Canal in Canada. This takes us to Ottawa ON where we pick up the Ottawa River. The Ottawa runs into the St. Lawrence River which we’ll follow northeast, passing Montreal.

The route Choices plans to take to complete the Triangle Loop.

Further up the St. Lawrence River we’ll turn south & follow a series of rivers & canals (Richelieu River, Saint-Ours Canal, Chambly Canal) to Lake Champlain, and then the Champlain Canal. This will return us to Whitehall NY (near Albany); thus completing our Triangle Loop. Last summer we traversed the lower leg of the Triangle Loop from Whitehall to Brewerton via the Erie Canal.
